Sustainable Underwear That’s Good for the Environment

Underwear — it’s the first thing we put on in the morning and the last thing we take off at night.

Undoubtedly, underwear is one of the most important clothing items we own. It keeps our private area private while providing comfort and security throughout the day. There are few things more important than comfort in our clothing. If we feel and look good in it, we buy it. That’s typically how it goes, right?

Still, if there’s one thing that should be prioritized as much as how we feel in our clothes, it’s how a product impacts the environment. Fortunately, we found a way to make our underwear eco-friendly without sacrificing comfort and style.

Below, we’re going to take a deep dive into how underwear can impact the environment both positively and negatively and show you how we’re trying to change it.

What Is Sustainability?

Environmental sustainability is acting in a way that lets future generations have the natural resources they need to live.

In terms of retail, if an item is produced or consumed in a way that isn’t harmful to the environment, it’s considered sustainable. If the product results in something like the destruction of a forest or leaves a bad carbon footprint, it’s not sustainable.

You’ve likely heard the term before, as it’s typically associated with things like energy, retail, and food products. In fact, everything in the world can be placed into two categories: sustainable and not sustainable.

How Can Underwear Be Sustainable?

So, how can underwear be sustainable? Well, there are a few ways.

  • Biodegradable: If something is biodegradable, that means it will eventually decompose once you’ve properly disposed of it. A quick product search or information on the tags should tell you whether an item will biodegrade. Many companies will proudly display this fact on the label.
  • Durability: Basically, how long will it last? If you purchase bad quality underwear, you’re going to have to keep buying more, which results in more shipping and mass production. If you have underwear that lasts for a good amount of time, that’s less production, less shipping, and a decreased carbon footprint.
  • Production: How, when, and where is your underwear produced? Just like biodegradability, a product search should tell you how your underwear is made.
  • Material: What your underwear is made of is one of the biggest indicators of whether it’s sustainable. Certain materials are more durable than others while some biodegrade much quicker.

Be sure to remember these terms and do some independent research of your own before making your next underwear purchase.

How Can Underwear Be Bad for the Environment?

While you might not think your selection of undies will change the world, it makes a huge impact. In fact, over 10% of greenhouse gas emissions can be attributed to the fashion and clothing industry. Mind-blowingly, the clothing industry uses more global energy than shipping and aviation combined — and that’s just producing and shipping.

Polyester, a fiber commonly used in our clothes and underwear, uses around 70 million barrels of oil per year. These synthetic fibers can take centuries to decompose.

At All Citizens, we tackled this issue head-on by using recycled polyester to produce our products. Rather than let this environmentally-expensive material sit in a hole until the year 2222, we reuse it to ensure our products last and nothing goes to waste.

Recycled polyester releases half to a quarter of carbon emissions than new polyester. It’s yet another innovative and creative way companies are learning to reduce their carbon footprint and go green.

Online Shopping

Another huge culprit to the clothing industry’s massive carbon footprint is online shopping. We’ve all been there — you’re shopping online for one new shirt, order 10 because of a sale, and end up never wearing half of them. In some countries, over 40% of clothes bought online are never worn more than once.

Conversely, if you end up ordering something like underwear that’s not your size, you return it. That creates more potential delivery flights and drives there and back plus the new item you order.

All Citizens is attempting to solve this problem by offering entire underwear wardrobe shipments. Instead of buying a few individual pairs, you have the option to order all of the underwear you’ll need for years.

Our durability ensures that you won’t need to keep buying them, while shipping them in bulk allows you to not have to order smaller, individual items in separate orders.

While ordering and shipping clothes and underwear is inevitable for most people, there are still ways you can minimize your impact on the environment. You just have to get creative. Being environmentally conscious isn’t difficult, and it can all start with how you choose to order your underwear.

The Eco-Friendly Underwear Checklist

People love structure, so why not create a list that you can follow before you order your underwear? It only takes an extra few minutes before and after you order, and the long-lasting impact is well worth it.

Remember: It’s not just underwear that’s causing the clothing industry to make such a negative impact on the environment. While this is an eco-friendly underwear checklist, consider using this before you buy any clothes, not just underwear.

Step 1: Material

The material of your underwear should be listed either in the title or in the description. If it’s not, check the company FAQ page to find out.

Once you know what material it’s made out of, check to see a few things:

First, is it biodegradable? If it is, how long does it take to decompose? A few months? Years? Centuries? You can find this out through some fast research on the internet from a reliable source.

Second, is the material recycled? If your underwear is made from a synthetic fabric, it’s likely going to take a lot longer to biodegrade than traditional fabrics. Companies like us use these recycled materials to ensure nothing goes to waste.

Step 2: How Long Will Your Underwear Last?

Is the underwear made from quality materials that won’t get worn down and rip fast? All companies will make this assurance regardless of what they’re made from, so it’s better to try and find reviews from actual customers.

It’s a simple rule: if your underwear doesn’t last long, that means you have to buy more. This creates more production and a lot more shipping, which is a leading cause of the clothing industry’s negative climate impact.

If everyone buys quality underwear, that means less shipping, less often.

All Citizens uses tight-knit seams, clean lines, and quality construction so that our underwear can stand the test of time. Major stress points are reinforced with even more stitching to stop rips in their tracks.

Step 3: Buy in Bulk and Make Sure It Fits!

We’re combining steps here, but these go hand-in-hand. Underwear sizing can be tricky because you can’t exactly try before you buy. It’s super important to make sure you get your size correct to avoid returns.

That’s a lot of pollution if you have one pair of underwear sent to you, then sent back to the company, and a new pair shipped to you. How can you avoid this?

Most companies will include a sizing chart on their website. If they don’t, just look one up. You can also use your old underwear and even pants as a point of reference.

In terms of buying in bulk, it’s always a great way to minimize the shipping impact. Instead of buying a few pairs of underwear and eventually more later on, why not just redo your underwear wardrobe with a brand and company you trust? Not to mention, buying in bulk is often cheaper and companies will usually be running some sort of discount or sale.

If you need new underwear, you probably need all new underwear.

Step 4: Check the Company Website!

Most of this information should be displayed proudly somewhere on the brand’s website. If they truly are dedicated to being an eco-friendly company, they won’t hesitate to display it — and that’s a good thing.

If they don’t, you can easily find their information from expert reviews.

It’s funny to think that you can have such a big effect on the environment from simply ordering some undies. At All Citizens, we hope you’re taking the climate pledge with us. Good luck, and start going green!

What Is the Best Breathable Underwear Fabric?

“To breathe, or not to breathe.”

That is the question — or, at least, the question we’ll be answering today. Specifically, what underwear material allows for the most comfortability, breathability, and the best overall experience?

Everything in the world has pros and cons, and underwear is no exception. Your favorite underwear brand may be exceptionally comfortable when you’re walking around but take a turn for the worse when you’re exercising, or vice versa.

Fortunately, there is a material and brand that gets the job done. Rain or shine, exercise or leisure, humid or bone-chilling, there is a material that will always have your back (and front).

We have a flair for the dramatic, so we’ll reveal what this mystery material is later. For now, let’s focus on the importance of your underwear material, what you should avoid, and what you should be wearing.

Why Your Underwear Material Matters

When picking and choosing your underwear material, there are two simple and important words you need to remember: breathable and absorbent.

We’ve all had those summer days when it feels like you sat in a chair after heavy rain — or hyperhidrosis, if you want to get scientific. Instead of going through your clean underwear supply in under a week, there’s an easy solution and explanation: Change your underwear material!

What Is Underwear Hygiene?

Remember, just because you have an ultra-absorbent and breathable material doesn’t mean you can re-wear your underwear without washing them after a long day or a sweaty workout.

Still, a safe and secure pair of underwear will help ensure you don’t have to make the switch mid-day unless it’s necessary.

Why Underwear Hygiene Matters

Your underwear hygiene is an extension of your overall health and mood. Nobody wants to be walking around with a bad rash or an icky smell. It never feels good, and it can be detrimental to your genital health.

If the material isn’t breathable, the bacteria and smells that have built up throughout the day will become trapped. This causes irritation, inflammation, and an uncomfortable day and night.

If your underwear isn’t absorbent, your situation down there will only get worse. Some materials that get wet won’t dry, which is another way bacteria and smells can build up.

How Often Should You Change Your Underwear?

Change your underwear every day! Once you throw it in the laundry basket, don’t take it back out until it’s washed. Just sitting and moving throughout the day is enough to warrant a change.

Thankfully, keeping your underwear hygiene up to par isn’t difficult. All you have to do is avoid wearing the same unwashed pair repeatedly and change when you think it’s needed.

What Is the Best Breathable Underwear?

Different types of underwear are built for different functions. Some will give you breathability while sacrificing comfort. Others will give you comfort while you sacrifice your cash flow. Simply, there are underwear materials that will help and hurt your overall genital hygiene, depending on when and where you wear them.

Like we said before, breathability is one of the most important aspects in your underwear. Below, we’re going to break down the pros and cons of the three most common types of underwear material: polyester, cotton, and silk.

Remember, it’s usually rare that underwear is made from 100% of the material it claims to have. There are normally different blends and types mixed in. Even if a company claims to make underwear that is 100% cotton, that number is likely in the high 90s.

So, for this list, we’re going to generalize whichever material makes up the majority of the underwear.

The Pros and Cons of Cotton Underwear

Below are some of the main pros and cons of cotton underwear.

How Breathable Is Cotton Underwear?

We’ll keep saying it: Underwear’s breathability is one of its important aspects. Cotton underwear is excellent at not trapping smells and bacteria in one area throughout the day.

How Comfortable Is Cotton Underwear?

We wear clothing to look good and be comfortable. Cotton underwear isn’t exactly uncomfortable, but it surely ranks last when compared to the other materials on this list.

How Absorbent Is Cotton Underwear?

Cotton underwear gets a little tricky when talking about its ability to absorb moisture. It will get the job done, but cotton tends to stay wet once it gets wet. This can present a lot of problems on a hot day or if you decide to exercise while wearing a pair of cotton underwear.

Is Cotton Underwear Worth It?

Cotton underwear is breathable while sacrificing some comfort and the ability to absorb heavy moisture. This type of underwear is definitely best suited for a workday that doesn’t involve a ton of movement or walks in mild temperatures.

What Are the Pros and Cons of Silk Underwear?

Here are the main pros and cons of silk underwear.

How Comfortable Is Silk Underwear?

Ever heard the phrase “silky smooth”? Well, soft and comfortable things are often compared to silk for a reason. Silk is undoubtedly one of the softest materials out there, which allows for maximum comfort.

How Expensive Is Silk Underwear?

Silk underwear can get pricey, especially if it’s a designer brand. If you get silk underwear, you’re probably only going to use it for special occasions and not everyday activities like exercise and work.

How Breathable Is Silk Underwear?

Silk underwear is often loose and closely resembles boxers. They’re excellent at breathability, but at the cost you’re paying, it would probably be wiser to go with another material that offers the same versatility. Plus, silk isn’t exactly sweat-wicking.

Is Silk Underwear Worth It?

We’re not here to force you to buy or not buy a certain pair of underwear.

However, if there are other types of underwear that offer the same abilities, why spend the money? Silk is more of a luxury than a necessity, and you’re probably better off saving money with a more affordable underwear wardrobe.

The Pros and Cons of Polyester Underwear

Here’s a rundown of the pros and cons of polyester underwear.

Is Polyester Underwear Good for Everyday Wear?

Polyester is the best underwear material for everyday people. Its quick-drying ability coupled with its overall durability and breathability makes it one of the few materials we consider perfect for daily use, regardless of weather, occupation, and activity.

Are There Drawbacks to Polyester Underwear?

There truly aren’t many downsides to polyester and polyester blends. It’s the longest-lasting material, the most absorbent and drying, and an all-around great fabric.

Is Polyester Underwear Worth It?

We’re not saying it’s a bad thing if you have cotton, silk, or other types of underwear — but if you truly want the most affordable and worthwhile material for your underwear, polyester is the way to go.

Where Can You Find the Best Polyester Underwear?

We’re glad you asked! We created All Citizens to design the highest-quality and most affordable pair of underwear for everyone, everywhere.

Our products are made from microfiber that is 90% polyester and 10% spandex.

What Makes the Best Men's Athletic Shorts?

A solid pair of athletic shorts can be a staple in any man’s closet.

Men’s workout shorts come attached to a lot of names and design specs: men’s running shorts, quick-dryingactivewear, compression shorts, mesh shorts, joggers, and performance shorts, just to name a few.

Athletic shorts can be worn during any workout or a casual day around town. Either way, they’re easily the most versatile type of shorts any guy can own.

They’re indisputably one of the most important articles of clothing any guy can own; but what makes the best pair of athletic shorts?

Sure, some brands come to mind. Your Under Armour, Adidas, Nike, Reebok, even trending options like Vuori — these best sellers do offer solid, reliable workout clothes.

But we’re talking about the best athletic shorts a guy can own.

Comfort, extra features, and style are all a huge part of the equation, and none of them can work without the other. You can’t have the best pair of athletic shorts with one of those key attributes being absent.

10 Things To Look for With Men’s Athletic Shorts

While there are tons of things that go into making the best pair of athletic shorts, we can narrow these down to 10 key features every pair needs.

Most high-quality athletic shorts will have a mix and match of these features. Some of them may sound unimportant or unnecessary, but take it from the experts: these features are needed.

1. 360-Degree Stretch Material

If you buy a pair of athletic shorts, odds are you’re going to be using them for physical activity.

Physical activity means movement and lots of it. When you’re moving that much, your clothes need to move with you and not against you. Otherwise, you’re going to be facing a ton of challenges.

Chafing, extreme discomfort, and even injury can all happen with any incorrect workout attire. It has to be loose, but not baggy; tight, but not squeezing, and overall comfortable in order for you to get the most out of your workout routine.

If you’re cross-training, would you rather have basketball shorts with short inseams or long cargo shorts or golf shorts? Clearly, for a gym workout, your priority is going to be breathable, stretchy material.

Even if you’re just walking around in these shorts, you’re still going to want to be comfortable, and walking is still moving.

Every pair of All Citizens athletic shorts are equipped with material that allows for a complete 360-degree, four-way stretch so you’ll enjoy each and every minute of your workout.

2. Plenty of Pockets

We’ll take this back to our previous point. Is there anything more annoying than going for a run or lifting in the gym and your phone starts flying every which way? You either have to set your phone down unattended, put it in a locker, or hold it in your hand.

Those are all inconveniences. Thankfully, there’s another solution: tight pockets. Even if your shorts have regular pockets, your belongings and your phone specifically are still going to bounce around.

Your pockets need to be tight, and there have to be multiple of them if you have more than one thing to carry. Think about it: you really could benefit from having side pockets, front pockets, back pockets, and all of them zippered pockets.

All Citizens ensures everything in your pockets will stay exactly where they’re meant to be.

3. Durable Performance Fabric

When you make an investment into a good pair of shorts — or any clothes, really — you need them to last.

That means no ripping or tearing, a stain won’t ruin them, and the color doesn’t fade over time. Fortunately, we just described the features of every pair of All Citizens athletic shorts.

The fabric, stretch, and stitching (which we’ll get to next) ensure it would take a whole lot more than a workout to rip or tear your shorts. Spilled your pre-workout coffee all over the place? No worries; any stain will come out with ease.

After tons of washes, you’d expect that new sparkling color to go away, right? Not with All Citizens. We guarantee the color will never fade no matter how many times you wash them — keeping the appearance brand new 24/7.

Our Eco-Friendly Re:Luxe Performance Microfiber is built with technical qualities for all-activity and all-weather comfort. It’s sweat-wicking, quick-drying, and anti-odor.

4. Reinforced Stress Points

With all the stretching and moving you’re going to be doing, your athletic shortsmust have reinforced stress points.

These reinforcements are placed in the areas that are going to feel the effects of your workouts the most. You don’t want your shorts to rip down the middle while you’re squatting, do you?

Thankfully, you’ll never have to worry about that happening with All Citizens. We completely overkill the shorts’ stress points so there’s never any chance of rips or tears — especially when you’re in a public gym.

5. Colors That Fit Every Gym Outfit

While the main goal of going to the gym is to maintain and advance our personal mental and physical health, you still want to look good!

Your shorts need to have color versatility so you can mix and match them with your shoes, shirt, and hat if you prefer. While camo can be a cool option for men’s gym shorts, you’ll have a bit of trouble finding the right t-shirts and shoes to match.

At the very least, you should have a wide range of solid color options, especially black, gray, and white. Those are the big three of gym short colors, and they’re the three every guy needs to have.

You should also have some colorful options too, like a navy blue pair.

All Citizens offers most of these colors so you can make jaws drop the moment you enter your gym. Maintaining your personal health is essential, but it certainly won’t hurt to look good while you’re doing it.

6. Easy, Low-Maintenance Care

Something we think everyone can relate to is getting nervous about wearing brand-new clothes.

The last thing you want to do is stain, rip, or ruin your new apparel in any way. It’s like with shoes: if it’s your first time wearing them, you’re going to avoid any and every possible obstacle that would get them dirty.

If they’re worn in, you’re just going to kind of do whatever. So, your shorts need to be ready and prepared for anything you throw at them, and you definitely don’t want or need to spend the extra time maintaining them.

All you need is to throw them in the wash and dryer, then fold them — nothing more and nothing less.

That’s what All Citizens athletic shorts offer: easy, low-maintenance care.

7. Premium Quality at a Better Price

Maybe most importantly, you don’t want to spend a small fortune on athletic shorts.

There are super-premium brands that will charge close to or more than $100 for one pair of athletic shorts, and that’s ridiculous to us. Typically, when something is a lot cheaper, that means it’s lower quality.

That’s just not the case with All Citizens. We’re simply dedicated to democratizing comfort for everyone, and sometimes that all starts with one pair of shorts, underwear, or socks.

We offer designer-quality athletic shorts for less than half the price.

8. Midweight and Heavyweight Options

Depending on what kind of training you’re planning on doing, you need to have options.

Some people are into heavier and more intense athletic training routines, which means they’re meant for a heavyweight option. Heavyweight shorts are made for the big workouts and they’ll keep you comfortable throughout.

Midweight shorts are meant for lighter activities or just lounging or walking around. There will be days you need a heavyweight option, so it’s absolutely essential.

9. Breathable Materials

Workouts mean movement, and movement means sweat

Sweat is one of the biggest enemies of comfort, so you need your shorts to wick and absorb any type of moisture that might come your way.

Mesh Breathe Zones are the best way to accomplish this. Every pair of All Citizens shorts, underwear, and socks are equipped with these zones. These microvents allow for airflow and uncompromising ventilation.

These zones are strategically placed in the areas that sweat the worst so air can rapidly rush to the affected areas and evaporate all moisture.

10. Comfy Enough for Lounging

You’re not going to exclusively wear your athletic shorts to the gym.

There will be days when you don’t feel like dressing up, like a lazy Sunday. You need to be prepared for these days by having the most comfortable shorts options available to you.

Material, stretch, and overall fit all contribute to how you’ll feel when wearing your shorts, so lounging will be key.

Meet Your New Favorite Workout Shorts

At All Citizens, we’re here to democratize comfort for all.

So, we’d like to introduce you to your new favorite pair of shorts: the All Citizens Contender Training Shorts. These shorts include all of the aforementioned features and so much more.

They will be your new best friend during workouts, and they’re certainly comfortable enough to lounge in any day of the week.

Good luck on your personal health journey, and we hope to see you rocking our shorts in the gym soon!

How Many Dress Shirts Does a Man Need?

Here’s the short answer: a man doesn’t need an absurd amount of dress shirts. You only need a couple that are versatile enough to mix and match with every outfit. You can skip the herringbone, the seersucker, and the French cuff — just keep it simple.

There are essential types and colors of dress shirts that you’ll need to complete your wardrobe and make your outfits stand out. When it comes down to it, it’s your closet and your style, but these are the essentials that every guy should have.

5 Essential Dress Shirts Every Man Needs

As we said above, there are specific types of dress shirts you need to have on hand for any event. We didn’t cover everything — you won’t see mentions of the oxford or tuxedo shirt here — but that’s just because we don’t necessarily consider those niche options an essential.

An outdoor event in the summer? A short-sleevebutton-up shirt will get the job done. First date? A long sleeveperformance dress shirt is perfect for a good first impression.

Whatever the occasion, you should have a dress shirt ready to impress.

A Short-SleeveButton-Up for Casual Days

Short-sleevebutton-downs are ideal for a warm summer night out with friends or a nice stroll around town. This regular-fit dress shirt is known for its accessibility — it’s a look any guy can pull off.

This technical take on your everyday button-up is the ideal Casual Friday companion. If you think it’s not your style, think again. A short-sleevebutton-up can be the key to your comfort on those hotter days, so it’s essential to pick up one of these shirts.

A Classic Men’s Dress Shirt for Everyday Wear

The classic performance dress shirt is a staple in every man’s wardrobe. With a classic fit, button-down collar, and simple color, prepare for this to be the most-worn shirt in your closet.

As much as we’d all like to, we can’t wear t-shirts every day. That’s where a button-down shirt comes in. Throwing on a dress shirt every now and then adds pizzazz to your outfit, even for a casual event.

Whatever the case, you need to have a couple of classic dress shirts on hand. Men’s dress shirts are often made from materials like gingham, twill, or poplin. While some are patterned, solid dress shirts are more common; patterns like plaid are typically reserved for business casual shirts.

A Slim-Fit Dress Shirt for More Formal Occasions (and To Make an Impression)

Job interviews. A regular day in the office. A fancy dinner with the missus or mister. Whatever the formal occasion is, a trim-fit dress shirt will put any man on the top of his game. This is one of All Citizens’ best-sellers for a reason.

The trim (or slim) fit dress shirt gives the appearance of a tailored piece without the unnecessary cost or the hassle. It’s meant to hug — but not squeeze— your sides to show off your figure.

Any event on the fancier side should be met with a trim-fit dress shirt, so be sure to have one ready to go.

A Lightweight Dress Shirt for Summer

Not feeling the short sleeve look, but it’s a hot day? No big deal — you’ll have a lightweight stretch dress shirt on hand.

The lightweight dress shirt is meant for those scorching summer days when the only relief you can find is air conditioning. The fabric allows you to breathe a little more without sacrificing any style.

If you plan on staying out through the nighttime or just aren’t feeling the short sleeve, a lightweight shirt is here for you.

A Dress Shirt With a Stylish Pattern

It’s always a good idea to add some color to your wardrobe, and that’s exactly what a patterned shirt can do for you. Plus, a patterned cotton shirt is a phenomenal layering piece to wear with a blazer or sweater.

At All Citizens, we offer multiple patterns on our modern-fit shirts, such as floral, cherries, windowpane, pin dot, and more.

Patterns allow you to mix in your personality into your look, and it’s always a good idea to have some colors to choose from.

What Should You Look for in a Dress Shirt?

Some features differentiate an average dress shirt from an elite one.

The fit, material, length, and price are just some factors you need to get right.

A Tailored Fit for Comfort and Functionality

We mentioned the tailored fit earlier, and what we said remains the same. Whether you’re short & small or big & tall, you shouldn’t have to look hard for a dress shirt with the right sleeve length and overall fit.

Nobody wants to spend money on a tailor anymore, so why not buy a shirt that already looks like it was made for you?

Our point collar dress shirts are all made with a tailored fit that brings you ultimate comfort perfect for our lives’ modern paces. Your job might not be low-maintenance, but your shirt should be.

360-Degree Stretch

Stretch is absolutely key.

This will allow you to be far more comfortable and keep the shirt from losing its shape or ripping. Whatever it is you’re doing in your dress shirt, odds are you don’t want an unexpected wardrobe malfunction.

Be sure to be on the lookout for a material that can move with you rather than against you the next time you buy a dress shirt.

Wrinkle-Resistant Material

Just like a tailor, nobody wants to spend the time or money ironing or dry-cleaning their shirts.

It’s a hassle, period. Haven’t you ever excitedly taken your favorite dress shirt out of the closet only to find it’s wrinkled? Odds are you don’t have an iron on hand — so what do you do?

Thankfully, you will never run into this problem if your shirt's material is easy care, commute-friendly, and wrinkle-resistant like ours. A non-iron dress shirt means that you can always arrive ready for anything.

The Right Length for Going Tucked or Untucked

If your shirt is too long, that’s a ton of fabric to keep in check. If it’s too short, you’re going to have an even harder time keeping it tucked. Your shirt needs to be the perfect length so you don’t look silly when it’s untucked or have trouble keeping it tucked.

By finding a shirt that’s the right length, you’ve purchased a piece that’s versatile enough for any outfit.

Premium Quality at a Better Price

Finally, and most importantly, your shirt needs to be affordable. You don’t want to pay for a cheap shirt or overpay for just one nice shirt.

You need a perfect balance of designer-quality products at affordable prices, which is exactly what All Citizens offers. Plus, you can get more for less with our bundles, whether you’re looking for three shirts, five shirts, a ten pack, or an entire Drawer Refresh.

When Should You Wear a Dress Shirt?

Another short answer: whenever you want!

That being said, there are certainly instances that absolutely call for a dress shirt, like job interviews, days at the office, and date nights.

Your Next Job Interview

Have you ever heard the phrase, “dress to impress”? Well, it couldn’t be more true.

You need to walk into that interview like you already have the job signed, sealed, and delivered.

Wearing nice clothes boosts your confidence considerably. So, the next time a big day is on the calendar, throw on your nicest dress shirt.

Working at the Office

If your office has a dress code, there’s nothing that’s as classy and equally as comfortable as a nice dress shirt. You can go through your day with ease, knowing that you are looking great and feeling even better.

Formal and Casual Events

Whether it’s very fancy or extremely casual, a button-up can help you feel like a boss. You’ll turn heads for the right reasons when you show up wearing your fancy new dress shirt.

Weekend Nights Out and Date Night

A night out on the town calls for a classy look, which is exactly what a dress shirt can provide. You can’t be on your A-game wearing a sweatshirt, right?

Just because you’re in a relationship doesn’t mean you shouldn't keep up your appearance. Any fancy night out with your significant other will call for a dress shirt one way or another, no matter how badly you want to wear your favorite team’s jersey.

What Color Dress Shirts Does Every Man Need?

Again, it’s your style, so you should wear what you want. However, every guy needs to have these solid-colored shirts on hand when the event calls for it.

If you don’t have at least one white buttoned shirt in your closet, drop what you’re doing and go buy one. Every guy absolutely needs a solid white colored shirt for professional and formal events.

Light Blue

Not having this option is a little more excusable than missing out on a white variation, but it’s still nice to have some options.

Every guy can pull off the light blue colored dress shirt, and it’s a certified classic.

Light Pink

The light pink can be a game changer for those of you who want to spice it up a little. Throwing in some color can never hurt, and a light pink will still match most outfits.

Game-Changing Dress Shirts for Every Man

Here at All Citizens, we’re dedicated to two things: first, democratizing comfort for all. Second, changing everything you think you know about quality menswear.

We make designer-quality apparel at a fraction of the cost. Our shirts, underwear, socks, shorts, and more are all made with eco-friendly material and come with tons of features.

We hope you join us in democratizing comfort for everyone (and enjoy yourself along the way).

What's the Best Thing To Wear Under Board Shorts?

Board shorts are awesome.

Whether you rock this look constantly or only on vacation, board shorts offer a fun and comfortable alternative to regular shorts or swim trunks. With unlimited colors and a variety of patterns to choose from, men’s board shorts offer guys an opportunity to showcase their fun side without sacrificing comfort. And they’re super easy to rock with everything from t-shirts and tees to regular hoodies.

But what are they? Swimwear? Beach shorts? Swim shorts? Whatever you classify them as, one question remains unanswered: What the hell do you wear underneath board shorts?

We’re going to take a deep dive into what you should be wearing under your board shorts, the benefits, and if it’s even necessary at all.

Do I Need Underwear Under My Board Shorts?

This is truly a matter of personal preference.

Do you need underwear when wearing board shorts? No. However, a lot of guys prefer it, and there are a ton of benefits.

Some board shorts come equipped with a mesh liner so they closely resemble a men’s swim trunks. If your board shorts have this mesh, it’s unlikely you’re going to wear underwear alongside a pre-built liner.

You can double up if you prefer — but it’s kind of like wearing a pair of shorts underneath sweatpants. You can do it, but it doesn’t really do anything.

It’s an entirely different story if your board shorts don’t have a mesh liner.

If that’s the case, you’re wearing something closer to regular shorts as opposed to swim trunks. The beauty of board shorts is that you can still choose to not wear underwear and you’ll get by just fine. However, we recommend wearing something underneath to protect you and your jewels.

If you’re walking around in board shorts, it can get pretty uncomfortable without underwear on. If you’re swimming in your board shorts, it can be uncomfortable with underwear. It’s a weird gray area that once again comes down to personal preference and what activities you plan on doing.

So, do you need underwear underneath your board shorts? That’s up to you.

What Are the Benefits of Underwear Under My Board Shorts?

Added Support

Going about your beach activities without underwear is a dangerous game, especially if you’re going out into the water as a surfer trying to surf a rip curl, a boogie boarder, or just horsing around. We’ve all been there — everything down there swinging around freely, hitting your thighs, and resulting in some of the worst damn pain a guy can feel.

Like we said before, one of the main functions of underwear is to protect your nuts. Underwear eliminates any unwanted skin-to-skin contact, so there’s no discomfort at any time.

Without it, there’s no support. With no support, there’s going to be some pain.

If you’re only lounging in your board shorts, you might be able to get by — but any exercise, long walks, or other types of extended movement can be a death sentence.

If you’re planning on going out for the day in your board shorts, it’s probably best to have some added protection. You need something to hold your balls down and control their motion, no matter the activity.

Prevents Chafing

If we were to make a list of the top ten things that can ruin your day, chafing would be in the top three.

All you’re doing is trying to enjoy your day. Then, all of a sudden, there’s an uncomfortable irritation or itching around your thighs. It’s the worst.

Chafing is caused by friction, moisture, bad fabric, or a combination of the above. When your skin is constantly rubbing against itself, it creates some of the most annoying pain and discomfort around.

It’s normally not bad enough to make you want to go home — but it’s surely obnoxious enough to put a damper on your vacation.

One of the biggest causes of chafing is not wearing underwear. Your twig and berries, thighs, and other parts of your body have no protection against each other — allowing them to freely bump and rub when you’re moving.

This creates friction, which in turn causes chafing. If it’s a hot day or if you’re exercising, it can get even worse due to unabsorbed moisture.

While there are remedies to help soothe the discomfort of chafing such as bandages, lubricants, and more, the best treatment is to avoid it by wearing underwear.

Aids Comfort

We wear clothes for two reasons: to look great and be comfortable.

Support for your twig and berries, no chafing, moisture absorption, smell prevention, and more — whatever the reason is, it all ties back to one huge overall factor: comfort.

Comfort is probably one of the reasons you’re wearing board shorts anyway, so you might as well try and maximize it.

You just feel better — both physically and mentally — knowing there’s something down there that’s going to keep you secure.

Everything is where it’s supposed to be, you have a low risk of chafing, there’s no moisture — it’s paradise!

What Is the Best Underwear for Board Shorts?

In order to maximize your comfort when you’re wearing board shorts, you need something ultra-soft and absorbent, loaded with smart features, and stylish — without breaking the bank.

That pair of underwear may sound too good to be true. Fortunately, All Citizens sells designer underwear for a below-market price with every feature you could dream up.

From our Paradise Pocket to our specially designed Grip Thighs, there’s no shortage of reasons our boxer briefs and compression shorts are the best a guy can buy.

Ball Pouch

Our Paradise Pocket ball pouch creates a little home for your gents down there, caressing them to separate your boys and your thighs. No skin contact equals no chafing, and the Paradise Pocket ensures you will never have to worry about it.

Plus, you won’t have to worry about awkward re-adjustments while you’re chilling on the beach.

Form-Fitting or Compression Fit

All Citizens offers sizes andfits for any body type. Our sizes range from XS to 4XL, and our fits have something for every guy and every thigh.

Our fits include:

  • The Standard: Your typical, one-size-fits-all type of fitting. This is for guys with an average build or for those who don’t really know what category they fall under. So, if you’re shopping and don’t know what to choose, The Standard is your best bet.
  • The Athletic: This fit is for guys with bigger thighs — but isn’t exclusive to only that body type. The Athletic fit is useful for those who exercise often and prefer more coverage from the butt down to your legs. Basically, this fit is built for workouts in any condition at any time.
  • The Longer Fit: The long fit is perfect for guys who prefer to wear as little as possible when they’re lounging or exercising. The coverage extends the furthest down the legs out of the three — making this fit perfect for those who prefer to work and lounge as light as possible.

Our boxer briefs are all form-fitting, and our compression baselayer offers a compression fit (as the name implies). An elastic waist adds to the security that these briefs won't be falling down. All of that equates to comfort, stretch, and a great summer day in the sunshine.

Performance Microfiber

Our high-performance microfiber is one-of-a-kind.

Combining 90% recycled polyester and 10% spandex, our Eco-Friendly Re:Luxe Performance Microfiber is built for every activity and any climate.

This fabric is quick-drying, sweat-wicking, and as moisture resistant as you can get. That means swamp butt is no longer a possibility, and you’ll never have to worry about needing a mid-day change ever again.

The spandex allows the underwear and compression shorts to follow your movements with 360 stretch — making exercising (and lounging) the easiest and most comfortable it’s ever been.

Grip Thighs

Our Grip Thighs entirely eliminate the possibility of ride-ups readjustments. When you throw this underwear or compression shorts on, it’s going to stay exactly where you want it to — no matter what you’re doing.

Mesh Breathe Zones

Finally, our mesh zones are placed throughout our underwear and compression shorts in the places that sweat the most (the Paradise Pocket, your back, and each leg).

Moisture like sweat can’t evaporate without air. These zones create a constant flow of air accessibility to ensure all moisture is gone before you can even notice it.

We hope the next time you wear your board shorts out, you carefully consider the pros and cons of wearing underwear underneath them. They can mean all the difference between a weekender with multiple days of consequential discomfort afterward or one awesome day after another.

However, personal comfort is all up to you. All Citizens is working towards comfort for everyone, everywhere — and it all starts with what you wear.

Comfort in even tight or stretch board shorts is up to you, though we would love to be a part of your comfort journey. You can even share the comfort with your friends (cause real bros don’t let their friends chafe!) Give them an All Citizens gift card so they layback in style and comfort all summer long as well.

Or if you’re getting ready for a trip, do a quick shop stop and cruise our special offers and new releases for summer. We have the right fit for everyone all the way up to XXL. Or check in any time to look for new arrivals or things on your summer wish list.

Enjoy all the fun and sun you can this summer and good luck in the heat!

How To Wash, Fold and Pack a Dress Shirt

Tying your own tie. Making your bed. And of course, folding your clothes — specifically your fancy ones.

What do all of these things have in common? They’re all skills and habits every guy should learn and practice. No matter who you are, these are things you absolutely need to know and have down to a science.

If there’s one thing that can completely ruin an outfit, it’s wrinkles. You might not think they’re noticeable, but trust us, they definitely are — especially if you let it get out of control.

You wear your dress clothes to only the best events. Even if it’s just an average day at the office, you still want to look your best.

If it is a special occasion, well, you’re simply not going to want to roll up with a wrinkled shirt. It’s just like having a bad stain — noticeable and an outfit ruiner.

With all that being said, we’re here to help you learn how to properly fold your dress shirts to avoid bad wrinkles.

What’s the Easiest Way To Fold a Dress Shirt?

When it comes to folding, especially with nicer clothes, everyone is going to have their own opinion on what’s right and what does or doesn’t work.

Fortunately for you, we’ve compiled a bulletproof system stemming from multiple opinions on the best possible method for folding dress shirts.

When you walk into a room, the first thing people are going to notice is your outfit, especially your shirt. You want it clean, crisp, and of course, wrinkle-free. A small wrinkle here and there isn’t the end of the world, and sometimes it can be unavoidable.

However, making a mess with your fabric is avoidable.

1. Button the Buttons First

First thing’s first — you never want to fold an unbuttoned shirt. Leaving a shirt unbuttoned and folding it is asking for a disaster as the buttons give you more control over where everything goes.

When the shirt is unbuttoned, the fabric is going to go everywhere you don’t want it to. The only solution to this problem is the buttons.

Start with making sure every button is ready to go and lay your shirt with the front side first so you’re looking at the back. Proceed to extend each sleeve as far as it can go.

2. The First Fold

Now, you’re ready to begin the fold. Take the right sleeve across the back of the shirt and place it on the opposite side.

The cuff should be roughly two-thirds down from the length of the left sleeve, which should remain untouched until the fourth step.

3. The Second Fold

After step two, you’re ready to start the next fold. Grab the right sleeve again and fold it back over itself. The cuff should now be directly in-line with the bottom-most hemline of the shirt.

This will create a diagonal and visible line from the right shoulder above the sleeve right down through the center of the shirt.

4. The Third Fold

After completing steps one to three, it’s time to start on the other side.

Nothing new here — you’re simply going to repeat the previous steps with the left sleeve. The result should be your shirt laying face down with the left and right sleeves parallel and almost completely covering the back.

5. The Fourth Fold

Now that you have your shirt face down with the sleeves properly folded and ready for action, you’re almost done.

Next, fold the shirt from the bottom to the top slowly in thirds. You can do it again across the middle depending on the size you want your shirt to end up in.

There you have it: a properly folded dress shirt! Clearly, the process isn’t difficult, and anyone can do it. Once you have this mastered, it’ll become second nature. Practice a little if you want, but it seriously is one of the easiest things to perfect.

When it’s all said and done, there’s no doubt you’re going to be a mean folding machine — and more importantly someone who never shows up in wrinkled clothes.

How Do You Pack a Dress Shirt in a Suitcase?

Now that you know how to fold a dress shirt, you’re going to need this skill for a few more situations besides putting it away in your closet or dresser.

For example, when you take a trip somewhere, you’re going to have to bring one of two things: a suitcase or a backpack, depending on how long you’ll be gone. We’ll get to the backpack later, so let’s focus on suitcase packing for now.

Suitcases give you the most room, so if your trip is longer than two to three days, we highly recommend bringing a bigger bag so you can avoid wrinkles.

If your suitcase rolls, it’s likely the metal rods are going to run straight through your suitcase and stick up. This isn’t always the case, but if it is, avoid placing your dress shirts directly on top of this at all costs.

We recommend placing everything that can get wrinkled on the bottom, such as underwear, socks, bathing suits, and any type of non-clothing item that isn’t super fragile. From there, you can either place your dress shirt on the very top or make a dress shirt sandwich by placing more items on top and below.

Remember, there’s a lot of movement in your bag when you travel, so sometimes wrinkles can be unavoidable. Preparing as much as you can before you go is the best way to decrease the odds of a wrinkle.

How Do You Pack a Dress Shirt in a Backpack?

If you’re headed somewhere for only a short amount of time, a backpack might be in your best interest so you don’t have to pay those pesky and outrageous airline fees.

If that’s the case, your backpack could cause a lot of problems with your clothes, especially your dress shirts. Backpacks have far less space than suitcases, so even if you’re bringing a lot fewer clothes and items, it’s still going to all be squeezed together.

How can you avoid this? First, you’re going to more or less repeat the folding steps up until the final fold. Instead of a traditional fold, you’re going to roll the shirt up to compact it as much as possible without spreading it out.

You might still be left with some wrinkles, but far less than if you were to simply shove it in the backpack with the rest of your belongings.

How Do You Wash a Dress Shirt?

After traveling and packing your shirt, you’re going to need to wash it when you get back. Unpack your suitcase and get ready for the cleanest shirts of your life.

First, you want to make sure to pre-treat any stains with stain remover. Then, unbutton all of the buttons and remove collar stays.

To wash the shirt, put it on a delicate or gentle cycle. It’s best to use hot water for white and light colored shirts, and cold water for dark colored shirts. When it’s done, remove it from the wash and hang it to let it air dry. Finish everything off by ironing it before you hang it up.

All Citizens: Better Dress Shirts for Everyone

There’s one more solution to wrinkles we forgot to mention: you could just buy a dress shirt with anti-wrinkle properties, such as the All Citizens Performance Dress Shirt.

The Performance Dress Shirt is machine washable so you’ll never have to waste money at the cleaners. The commute-ready material also contains moisture-wicking and quick-drying properties, so a quick change into a fresh shirt is never necessary.

The thick collar and hidden collar buttons are there to ensure your collar is always standing tall and looking as sharp and crisp as ever.

Finally, the tailored athletic fit means your shirt will never be too short or baggy, no matter how you tuck it.

At All Citizens, we’ve made it a personal goal to democratize comfort for all, one shirt, shorts, and pair of underwear at a time. We hope you’ll join us on our journey and never forget how to properly fold your shirt.

What Makes the Best Performance Dress Shirt?

Dress shirts are awesome. The button-down collar, the countless layering options, the way they look with chinos or khakis — these are all reasons why we love them.

Button-ups make us look and feel like our best selves. There are few feelings that rival the satisfaction of spending an extra few minutes getting ready to go somewhere cool.

Throw on some cologne, hair product, accessories, and a slim-fit stretch dress shirt, and you’ve got yourself one fun night ahead of you. Even if your style doesn’t necessarily include dressing up often, you can’t deny that great feeling you get looking at yourself in the mirror after you’ve gotten ready.

That being said, you need to get a performance dress shirt that’s just right for you.

11 Features That Make the Best Performance Dress Shirt

There are so many factors that go into making a quality performance dress shirt. We’ve taken the liberty of composing what we believe are the 11 most important things to look for. From the material to the versatility, there is no shortage of features that can upgrade an average dress shirt to elite status.

360-Degree Stretch Material

Your shirt needs to be able to move with you rather than against you. Whether it’s long sleeve or short sleeve, casual or formal, performance fabric is essential.

Parts of our best-sellingperformance dress shirts are made with spandex which helps to stretch the shirt out without leaving any damage or risking discomfort. Our material offers a complete 360-degree stretch, so no matter where you go or what you do, your shirt has your back (literally).

In addition to its unique stretchiness, our fabrics are also made with recycled polyester. Polyester is one of the worst fabrics for the environment. That’s why we use as much recycled polyester as possible so that less of it goes to waste (and pollutes the Earth in the process).

Combine eco-friendly materials with 360-degree stretch, and you’ve got one of the highest quality shirts a guy can wear.

Does anyone own an iron anymore?

If you do, you’re a better man than us. We think irons are an outdated and time-deficient method of making our clothes look good. Instead of wasting time and money ironing your shirts, you need a non-ironbutton-down shirt that doesn’t require any extra care.

Every All Citizens dress slim-fit shirt is wrinkle-resistant so that you can spend more time on yourself rather than your clothes.

We’ve all been excited to pull out our favorite nice shirt only to see its totally worn out, wrinkled, and shapeless. Since most of us don’t have an iron, we’re kinda stuck with a sub-par shirt. That’s just not right.

Wrinkle-free dress shirts are hard to come by, but All Citizens can proudly say our shirts never wrinkle.

Moisture-Wicking Fabric

Just like how wrinkles can ruin all of your excitement, pit stains might be even worse.

By the time you realize you’ve got stains, you’re likely going to already be out of the house and far away from any convenient clothes change. What can you do besides awkwardly avoid raising your arms at any point in time?

Well, one easy solution is to make sure your dress shirts have moisture-wicking properties like All Citizens does.

Sweat can’t evaporate without air. Our material pushes the sweat to the outermost layer so it comes into direct contact with air, eliminating any possibility of night-ruining pit stains.

If you’re planning on dancing the night away in your dress shirt, you’d better come prepared.

Nobody wants to spend more money when they could spend less.

Wearing apparel that can’t be washed in your own washer and dryer means you have to take it to the dry cleaners. You probably already own a few sweaters or blazers that are dry clean only. That means two extra trips out of your way to the cleaners on top of the cost of cleaning the clothes themselves.

So, why not buy a dress shirt you can clean and take care of in the comfort of your own home?

That’s exactly what All Citizens is offering. All of our performance dress shirts are not only washing machine-friendly but completely safe from any potential damage or stains that traditional dress shirts might attract.

Save the trips and the cash to the cleaners and go with something that will make your life a lot easier.

Better Color Retention

When you buy a new dress shirt, you want it to remain exactly that: new.

It’s like when you buy a car. Nothing beats that new car smell, and you go out of your way to avoid ruining it for months. The same thing goes for your new favorite shirt — you want to keep it as new as possible for as long as possible.

In cheap dress shirts, you’ll start to notice a few things after a while. The color will begin to fade after multiple washes, yellow sweat stains might begin to randomly appear, and the shirt will generally start to feel worn and old.

With All Citizens, you’ll never have to worry about wearing a shirt that you aren’t proud to take out on the town. Our light blue, light pink, and classic white shirts are guaranteed to still look brand-spankin' new after every wash.

Plus, they’ll keep their perfect fit after countless washes, thanks to its 360-degree stretch fabric.

Piggybacking off color retention, every single one of our shirts is ultra-durable.

What does this mean? Well, while most brands use single-line stitching to save a few extra bucks, All Citizens uses reinforced stitching by double lining every inch of the shirt.

Don’t worry, this doesn’t make the shirt uncomfortable or heavier. All the extra stitching does is add some more protection to the shirt to fight any potential rips and tears.

When you combine this with the 360-degree stretch, you would actually have to try and rip our shirts to do any real damage. You can sleep safe and sound knowing your brand-new purchase won’t fade or rip so that you can stay looking as fresh as possible.

Tailored Fit

Fun fact: All of our shirts come with a tailored fit. Whether you’re shorter or in the “big & tall” category, we’ve got you covered.

Tailors are chill and all, but do you really need one when you can buy a regular-fit shirt that’s already done its job for you by the time you reach checkout?

The answer is a resounding no. Our tailored-fit dress shirts will allow you to strut your stuff anywhere and everywhere the minute they arrive at your doorstep.

There is a simmer on the arms with a narrow waist and broad shoulders, which allows your shirt flatter your figure. All Citizens offers off-the-rack unlike any other.

Hidden Collar Button and Perfect Button Placement

Two underappreciated aspects of dress shirts are collars and button placements. You may not think of either of these things as priorities, but luckily we’ve got you covered.

It actually makes a huge difference. The hidden buttons on the collar ensure it never falls flat and remains unseen to everyone. The built-in collar stays helps a ton, too.

The second and third buttons on our shirts are purposely placed lower to create a more modern collar and shape appearance. Again, these are minor details that make a big difference.

High-Set Back Yoke

If you’re hearing the word “yoke” in relation to a shirt for the first time, we’ve been there.

Our shirts have a high-set back yoke that helps to make the front and back pieces of the top of the shirt stay straight while broadening your shoulders. It’s important that our yoke is high-set so your fabric never gets wrinkled, and it gives a nice boost to your shoulders.

Once again, this is a very minor detail that can make all the difference. Some brands don’t even care about their yokes, but we do!

Versatile Length for Tucked or Untucked Wear

The length of your dress shirt has to be absolutely perfect.

If it’s too long, you’ll have an uncomfortable time keeping all of that fabric in place. If it’s too short, your shirt might not even tuck properly.

You want to be able to wear your shirt for multiple different occasions. Going to a bar with friends? Let your shirt hang loose for a more casual look. Job interview? Tuck that sucker in for a more presentable and professional vibe.

Whatever you’re doing — dressing up or down — your performance dress shirt needs to be able to accommodate you and your needs.

Affordable Price

At All Citizens, we pride ourselves on offering designer-quality apparel at half the price — and our dress shirts are no exception.

Instead of spending hundreds of dollars on one shirt, it’s best to go the cost-efficient route of owning an entire wardrobe with multiple colors rather than just one nice dress shirt.

That’s the thing — you can own way more than one dress shirt — you can own an entire army of dress shirts!

Maybe not that many, but you get the point. Stop spending your money where it doesn’t need to be spent, and go with the best brand: All Citizens.

Premium-Quality Dress Shirts for Every Man

No matter who you are or where you live, you deserve to live comfortably.

“Living comfortably” starts with one inexpensive dress shirt, t-shirt, or pair of pants, underwear, and socks. Again, you get the idea. Comfort shouldn’t be unaffordable.

All Citizens is dedicated to democratizing comfort for all. If our features and prices haven’t convinced you, you can check out our social mission here

For now, keep on keepin’ on. We can’t wait to see you rock that new dress shirt.

How To Pick the Right Slim-Fit Dress Shirt

When it comes to finding the perfect dress shirt, fit is one of the most important things to look for. Although the fabric, color, pattern, buttons and small details also matter, when you’re on a night out, at work or on a date, the first thing people will notice is how sharp or sloppy you look in your dress shirt, and that comes down to if it fits your body well.

This is why picking the right dress shirt is so important - it’s the difference between looking put together and not. Mix in a nice pair of pants or shorts with some accessories, and you’ve got yourself one helluva good time.

Below, you’ll find a guide on what you should look for in a slim-fit dress shirt. By the end, we’ll have you ready to look your best, no matter where the night brings you.

What Is a Men’s Slim-Fit Dress Shirt?

Dress shirts are usually measured and cut in 3 different styles: Classic Fit, Slim-Fit and Tall. A classic fitbutton-up shirt has a looser fit around the waist for extra room for your stomach. Most off-the-rack shirts from department stores come in Classic fit, but their Classic fits are actually cut much wider than most modern premium brand dress shirts, and they billow out rather than have a flattering fit. The reason for this is because department stores try to appeal to a very wide group of people, so they play it safe with their fits and stock oversized Classic fit dress shirts that they know will fit everyone (despite it be unflattering).

Slim-fit dress shirts are a button-down shirt designed to fit closely to the body, specifically around the waist. They are taper ar the torso and are slightly smaller in the arms than the Classic Fit for a more flattering fit. Most modern premium brands offer slim-fit dress shirts since it is a trending style and looks sharper, and they offer them in casual shirts, like plaid flannels, or shirts with a more formal look, like solid dress shirts.

Slim-fit shirts are often made of materials and patterns like Supima cotton, poplin, gingham, or twill. The softest will feel like your favorite t-shirt, while other materials have more texture and structure.

No two people are exactly the same size (we see you, big & tall guys), so finding a shirt that fits perfectly can be a challenge. A slim-fit button-down shirt is the closest you can get to a tailored look without actually going to the tailor.

Slim fits are especially important in dress shirts because you don’t want tons of extra fabric billowing out at your waist and poofing out every time you move.

What Should You Look for in a Slim-Fit Dress Shirt?

There are a surprising amount of things you should be aware of before you purchase a dress shirt

Dress shirts are usually more expensive than regular shirts. You’re going to want to be sure your dress shirt is durable so that you can get your money’s worth. You’re also not going to want to have to iron it every time before you wear it, so wrinkle resistance should be at the top of your must-have list.

Fit and color are two other factors to consider. You obviously want it to fit just right, and purchasing a variety of colors lets you mix and match. These are just a few of the many features any high-quality slim-fit shirt needs.

Tailored Fit

Like we mentioned earlier, your slim-fit shirt should have the look and feel of a tailored shirt without the extra fabric, cash or hassle.

Your shirt should never feel too tight, especially in the shoulders, arms and torso. It’s supposed to hug your figure to be a bit more form-fitting, but not at the expense of comfort or be overly tight.

All Citizens cuts their Classic and slim-fit dress shirt with a Tailored Athletic Fit that’s designed to rest comfortably across broad shoulders with slimmer arms and a narrow waist. Don’t have time to sculpt that v-shaped body? The Tailored Athletic Fit dress shirt gives you a sharper silhouette.

A tailored fit is one of the most important aspects of a slim-fit dress shirt. Make sure to be on the lookout for what type of fit it is before you buy one.

Stretchy, Wrinkle-Resistant, Machine-Washable Performance Fabric

Wrinkles are a hassle - they set in easily, take a long time to iron out, and if you don’t spend the time ironing, they make you look sloppy and unkempt.

For men with active lifestyles who are busy and always on the move, having a performance dress shirt that is wrinkle-free, non-iron and machine-washable is a game-changer - it’s a time and money-saver since you don’t have to take it to the dry cleaners after each wear, so you can get on with your busy life and not let your garments own your time.

Having a stretch dress shirt that is slim fit is also a game-changer. The stretch enables you to move freely with unrestricted movement, and it helps prevent elbow blowouts and busted seams so the shirt will last longer. It also allows your slim-fit dress shirt to fit better because the “give” in the shirt shirt allows the fabric to sit closer to your skin and have a more fitted and trimmer silhouette without the risk of tearing the fabric.

Other key features your slim fit dress shirt fabric should have is performance characteristics such as being sweat-wicking, quick-drying and extremely breathable and lightweight. This ensures that you don’t have sweat stains in the armpits and allows you to handle hot and humid weather with ease.

Just make sure to find a performance dress shirt fabric that looks more like a cotton dress shirt than athletic apparel. Most athletic apparel has a sheen or shine to it, so the performance fabric will look odd on a dress shirt.

The Right Length for Wearing Tucked or Untucked

If you want your shirt to be versatile, it cannot be the wrong length.

Too short, and it will never stay tucked in. Too long, and the shirt will be impossible to tuck without extra fabric riding up. The same goes for sleeve length — long sleeves should reach the right point on your wrist, and short sleeves should reach the right point on your shoulder.

Your shirt needs to be able to be worn tucked or untucked, and that requires the perfect length.

Premium Quality — for a Better Price

Lastly, you want to get the best bang for your buck. Your slim-fit dress shirt shouldn’t cost a whole week's salary.

You need a slim-fit dress shirt with the quality of a designer brand but at a fraction of the cost. Luckily, All Citizens’ best seller, our cotton dress shirt, fits that bill perfectly. You get all of these must-have features for half the price of other premium shirts. Plus, our bundle options let you buy designer-quality shirts in packs of three, five, or 10 for an even lower price per shirt.

Plus, the button-down collar should be easy to adjust and not too tight on your neck.

What Are the Best Colors for Slim-Fit Dress Shirts?

Everyone’s style is different, but all guys need a solid-colored and plain dress shirt in their closet that can be worn for any occasion.

Light Blue

A light blue dress shirt is a staple of any classy wardrobe. It’s a smooth color that complements almost everyone and matches any pants or accessories you want to wear.

If you’re having trouble deciding what color dress shirt to wear but don’t want to go with classic white, light blue is the solution. You simply can’t go wrong.

Classic White

If you want to talk about dress-wear staples, you can’t get more classic than a white dress shirt. With multiple collar options (point collar, spread collar, or French cuff, to name a few), this iconic dress shirt is a wardrobe essential that gives you access to countless looks.

It matches literally everything, so you’ll never have trouble figuring out what the rest of your outfit is going to look like. Every guy should have a white dress shirt in their closet, period. It’s a classic, but it’s also a necessity.

Light Pink

If you want to spice it up a little bit, you should try a light pink colored shirt

As we said, everyone has their own style. Some people might want to go bolder than white, while others might not prefer blue.

If you want to go bigger without sticking out like a sore thumb, light pink is one of your best options. Throw it in your cart before checkout; you won’t regret it.

Pro Tip: Keep at Least One Patterned Dress Shirt in Your Closet

Solid colored shirts are always necessary, but you also need to show off your fun side. Patterned dress shirts are an excellent way to display your personality without sacrificing your style.

Plus, they look pretty darn cool on a Friday night.

When Should You Wear a Slim-Fit Dress Shirt?

There’s never a bad time to wear a dress shirt. That being said, there are certainly times that specifically call for one.

For Everyday Work Outfits

Even if your office has a dress code, any variety of dress shirts should be A-OK. Whether it’s a short-sleeve button-down or a long-sleeveoxford shirt, you’ve got plenty of options. You can even layer your dress shirt under a blazer or sweater for a more complex look.

Our fabric, stretchiness, and overall fit are cuddling-with-pandas comfortable, so you can feel like you’re lounging at home even when you’re grinding at the office. Plus, our commute-proof fabric means you’ll show up to work every day looking like a million bucks.

When You Want To Make a Strong First Impression (Like in an Interview)

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: nothing shows you care more than dressing nice.

This is especially important for something like a job interview. You want to walk in there looking like the boss (or highly dependable employee) you are. The right shirt displays confidence and shows that you take pride in meeting with your future boss.

When You’re Out on the Weekends

You don’t want to show up to a party, bar, or club in extra-slim sweatpants and a hoodie. You can do better than that. A point collar dress shirt and some paisley pants is way more of a look.

The better you look, the better you’ll feel. Dressing up will improve your overall confidence by a mile. It’s time you made the room stop dead in its tracks as soon as you walk in.

For First Dates

The last thing you want to do is dress too casually for a date. Confidence is key, and nothing says “I’m the most confident guy in the world” like a nice dress shirt

Everything You Want in Athletic Shorts

If you’re like many active men, you take your conditioning seriously.

That means staying consistent, putting in effort, and wearing clothes that will help you reach your goals.

What you wear can have a huge impact on the effectiveness of your workouts, but what makes a pair of athletic shorts elite? While you may not be concerned about the cosmetics of your gym outfit, how your shorts function can make or break your training day.

Athletic Shorts 101

Both men’s and women’s workout shorts are built to serve one purpose: to make sure you get the most out of every workout. It’s a huge bonus if they have extra features — like All Citizens’ training shorts, the new arrivals changing the game in workout wear.

All Citizens’ training shorts were made for your entire workout regimen from the gym to the volleyball court to your weekend adventures. Factors like your shorts’ materials, their fit, and how often you wash them can take your workouts to the next level.

What’s the Best Material for Athletic Shorts?

When most guys shop for athletic shorts, we’ll normally pick whatever is cheapest, comfiest, and looks the coolest.

We don’t always take an in-depth look at what our shorts are made of or where they come from — but we should. You could be wearing the wrong pair of athletic shorts and not even know it.

For any athletic wear to be truly elite, it should be made with a certain percentage of spandex. Spandex helps provide the flexibility you need for your workout.

All Citizens’ durable performance fabric is made with 10% spandex. The other 90% is made from completely recycled and sustainable materials that would otherwise be waiting to decompose in a landfill.

Just like our underwear, our training shorts are made with the finest performance materials worldwide with moisture-wicking, quick-drying, and anti-microbial properties fit enough for even the most advanced workouts. Spandex gives these shorts their 360-degree stretch, while our performance blend also ensures a breathable, durable, and cuddling-with-pandas soft material.

How Do You Tell If Athletic Shorts Fit?

An excellent rule of thumb is the faster your exercise is, the shorter your shorts should be. For example, if you’re going for a run, you want your shorts to be on the shorter side and pretty snug.

For strength training, it’s recommended to go a little longer. The extra fabric in mid-rise shortlegs will be useful in wicking moisture and making sure you’re not flashing any bystanders at the gym.

However, a general rule for all running shorts, bike shorts, and other types of athletic shorts is that they should be fairly snug. If they’re too tight to the point where you experience discomfort, they’re too small. If they’re too big, you’ll have a distracting amount of extra fabric and risk a wardrobe malfunction.

Most active shorts have an elastic waistband or drawstring, making it easier to adjust the fit if the inseam isn’t exactly right for you.

How Often Should You Wash Athletic Shorts?

Wash your activewear after every single workout. That includes gym shorts, leggings, and dri-fitt-shirts — not just your underwear and socks.

It can be tempting to wear basketball shorts, fleece shorts, Bermuda shorts, and other types of activewear more than once, especially if they’re sweat-resistant and contain moisture-wicking properties like All Citizens’ shorts. Still, just because a short is sweat-resistant doesn’t mean you’re not going to sweat in them.

Even if it’s a light workout and you’re not breaking that much of a sweat, you should still wash your shorts. Gyms, through no fault of their own, can be pretty filthy. Think of all the equipment you’re sitting on and touching.

So, yes, please wash your sport shorts after every workout — especially if you’re working out in a public gym or tend to sweat a lot during your exercise.

What Should You Wear With Workout Shorts?

Your workout apparel should be whatever makes you comfortable. Still, there are some items that can help you find the functionality you need for your workout.

Consider wearing a shirt that’s sweat-resistant or designed for workouts. If you want to go shirtless, that’s fine too (as long as your gym allows it).

Under the shorts, however, is a different story. Working out in boxers underneath your athletic shorts probably isn’t the best idea, and neither are tighty-whities.

You need a perfect pair of underwear that’s not too loose and not too tight — something that can protect you from the elements. Typically, you’ll want to choose between compression shorts or performance boxer briefs for your workout underwear.

What Are the Different Types of Athletic Shorts?

There are two primary types of athletic shorts: Training shorts and compression shorts.

Training Shorts

Training shorts (sometimes called sweat shorts) are the most common type of shorts you’ll see at the gym, on the field, or while you’re out adventuring. These are constantly trending due to their simple and high-accessibility design.

They are made for workouts and exercise, but you’ll still see people rocking them while lounging. Like we mentioned before, these training shorts should be nice and snug. Anything too loose or tight will be detrimental to your workout.

Training shorts will typically be made with spandex and other materials that you wouldn’t find in more casual pants like khakis and sweatpants.

Compression Shorts (AKA Compression Baselayers)

Compression shorts (or baselayers), on the other hand, serve a slightly different purpose.

These mesh shorts are meant to be almost like the big brother of underwear. Compression shorts will improve your comfort and help eliminate chafing. Athletes often wear these underneath their shorts to help prevent injury.

Our Endurance Compression Baselayer features strategically-placed Mesh Breathe Zones to get rid of swamp ass for good with micro vents that create uncompromising ventilation and increased airflow. With no ride-up legs thanks to our Grip Thighs, a compression pouch that stops the “boys” from bouncing, and a designated phone pocket, these compression shorts get you through any workout in style.

What To Look for in Athletic Shorts

Before we send you off on your own in search of the perfect pair of athletic shorts, there are a few more details you should consider.

A good pair of athletic shorts simply gets the job done. An elite pair of athletic shorts, however, will actually help you during your workouts through the durable stretch fabric, reinforced seams, an ultra-flexible fit, and plenty of pockets.

Durable Stretch Fabric

All Citizens’ versatile Contender Training Shorts are made with a midweight fabric so you can utilize them for any workout or sport.

For high-impact training, rough environments, and hard-hitting routines, our Heavyweight Training Shorts offer a hard-wearing, substantial fabric alternative so you can go the distance — and beyond.

Reinforced Seams

Nothing is worse than ruining a pair of nice shorts during a workout. First, you feel like you lost money. Second, you have to stop your workout in order to get a different pair.

With All Citizens, you’ll never have to worry about that. Our reinforced seams are double-lined on the gusset in order to increase torsion and strength.

The gusset seams feel the most movement, such as rubbing and friction, making durable seams of the utmost importance.

Ultra-Flexible Fit

The bottom gusset on All Citizens shorts allows for an extremely versatile range of motion. Without any flexibility, it would be like trying to lift weights or run in khaki shorts. Trust us, we’ve tried it before — it sucks.

Plenty of Better Pockets

We’ve all had our phone or wallet fly out of our pockets when we’re working out — and some of us have even resorted to carrying our phones in our hands when we run.

Don’t settle for less. All Citizens’ offers two side slash pockets, a phone pocket, and a secret stash pocket for your cards and keys. Our phone pocket will keep your phone from bouncing during workouts, and each pocket is sewn using double-lined stitching for durability.

Even more reinforced stitching is added to pocket corners, making blowouts a thing of the past. Finally, our pockets’ mesh materials create improved airflow and ventilation, even during your sweatiest sessions.

Wrapping Up

When you’re shopping for your underwear or athletic wear, All Citizens has what you need to go the extra mile.

We are truly the best in the game at what we do. Most importantly, our bestseller shorts are built for all people, no matter who you are or what you need. Join us in our mission to democratize comfort throughout the world — it all starts with one checkout.

What Makes the Best Performance Ankle Socks?

Let’s be real: when guys shop for performance socks, we often choose the first (and cheapest) pair we see. While there’s nothing wrong with saving a little cash, but the right ankle socks can make or break your workout.

Wouldn’t it be nice if there were a pair of socks with elite performance features at the cheapest possible price? That’s just what All Citizens is offering.

What Features Should I Look for in Performance Ankle Socks?

Now, you’re probably thinking we might be a little biased. So, are we? You’re darn right we are — because we offer the best socks in the world.

Every single clothing item you wear should be versatile and have performance features that make your day more comfortable. That doesn’t exclude All Citizens Performance Ankle Socks with features like a mesh upper, an anatomical design, and a high-pile cushioned footbed.

Mesh Upper for Ventilation and Airflow

Just like our underwear, shorts, pants, and shirts, our socks have a mesh layer that allows for better ventilation and airflow.

You can’t enjoy a workout if your feet are soaked. The mesh layer in our socks ensures that there’s enough airflow to evaporate and wick every single drop of sweat that comes your way.

Stop wearing thick socks that don’t absorb moisture — it’s just unhealthy. Get yourself a pair of socks that won’t feel like you’re walking through the Nile with every step you take.

Anatomical Design To Fit Both Feet Just Right

Whether they’re too tight or big, the wrong fit for your socks can make for a brutal walk, run, or workout. If they’re too small, sometimes your ankle will be exposed and blisters can form. If they’re too big, that’s a ton of fabric for sweat to become trapped in and create odors.

All Citizens socks are anatomically designed to snap right onto your foot: Not too tight and definitely not too big. They are quite literally the perfect size that fits all.

High-Pile Cushioned Footbed

With our custom high-pile cushion, it’s like your feet are always laying in their own personal bed. It’ll feel like you’re constantly walking on a cloud without falling through. We’re talking “cuddling with pandas” soft.

This is especially important for runs or long walks. You don’t want your feet to get battered and uncomfortable during exercise — that will ruin the whole experience.

So, get the most out of your movement routines with our footbed. Your feet will never feel more comfortable than this.

    No-Slip Compression Center

The no-slip compression center in every pair of All Citizens socks ensures your feet won’t be slipping and sliding throughout the day.

Our socks are designed to apply pressure where it’s needed in the most comfortable way possible. Basically, your feet won’t feel like they’re suffocating and will always stay where they’re meant to be.

It’s a subtle detail that most socks don’t have — especially most performance socks.

      Eco-Friendly Recycled Fabric

All Citizens's gear is always made from recycled fabric, and our socks are no exception.

Rather than let some synthetic fabrics decompose for centuries, we prefer to put it to use. That goes for our underwear, T-shirts, pants, and of course, socks.

The fashion industry has one of the largest environmental impacts out of any sector. The next time you’re shopping for clothes, take notice of the material you’re buying. As we said, some fabrics can take decades or centuries to decompose, while others don’t decompose at all.

Using recycled materials is a huge step in the right direction toward cutting down on the fashion industry’s carbon footprint. It can all start with something as small as a pair of socks.

        Seamless Toe for Durability

Our socks are designed so there is never an itchy and annoying seam sewn in where your toes are. Like with the footbed, your dogs will always be comfy.

This also helps with durability. Your socks feel the most movement where your toes are, meaning it’s the likeliest place to rip. Thankfully, there’s no seam there to rip, so you won’t have to worry about that.

Y-Stitched Heels for an Ultra-Comfy Fit

Our Y-stitched heels allow for a super comfortable fit that will never lead to discomfort. Once again, they’re a perfect fit — they won’t squeeze your feet but won’t be too loose, either.

Ankle and Topside Tabs To Protect from Chaffing

Everyone’s biggest problem and concern with socks is that they’ll get blisters or discomfort from chaffing when your foot comes into contact with their shoe.

We’ve all had to put band-aids on our heels before because our socks simply didn’t get the job done. It’s uncomfortable and can ruin our entire day.

Fortunately, every pair of All Citizens socks has small tabs located on the ankle and topside to block blisters from forming.

Half the Price of Comparable Premium Brands

Finally, and maybe most importantly, our ankle socks are inexpensive!

Nobody wants to pay a premium for socks. Socks are important, but you don’t want to spend a boatload of money on them. You won’t find a more reasonably priced pair of socks that have all the features we included.

The Only Socks You’ll Ever Need

The most durable, versatile, and cheapest pair of socks on the market — the All Citizens Performance Ankle Sock is the only pair you’ll ever need.

We wish we could say they’ll knock your socks off, but the fit is so perfect and snug that could never happen.

They are actually the only pair of socks you’ll ever need, as they can be worn through a seamless transition of work to play and vice versa.

Help us in our mission to democratize comfort for all, and we’ll see you out there in your spiffy new socks.
